They share the same genes, but dance to slightly different tunes; the Paceman is essentially the four-door Countryman in sportier two-door form, a move that, according to Mini, sees the brand pressing ahead with its commitment to add new and innovative vehicles to its model range. The shared features of the Countryman and Paceman are a vehicle length of over four metres, the same powertrain and the standard All4 all-wheel drive system. Like the Countryman, the Paceman is sold in S and higher-performance John Cooper Works (JCW) versions. Both are powered by 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinders, with the base Paceman’s motor putting out 181 horsepower versus 208 for the JCW. A six-speed manual is standard, with a six-speed manumatic available. In addition to the extra power, the JCW adds an aerodynamic body kit, bi-xenon headlights, sport exhaust and suspension systems and 18-inch light-alloy wheels.
