The second-generation Mini Countryman All4 made its debut for the 2017 model year, initially offered in Cooper S trim as well as the high-performance John Cooper Works (JCW) version. A 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine powers both; the base Countryman S’s motor putting out 189 horsepower versus 228 for the JCW. Subsequently joining the model range was the base Cooper All4, with a turbo 1.5L three-cylinder under the hood, and the plug-in S E All4 PHEV, its three-cylinder gas engine boosted by an 87-hp electric motor. A six-speed manual is standard, with an available eight-speed manumatic optional (except for the PHEV, which comes standard with a six-speed automatic). For 2020, the JCW Countryman All4 will get a new-generation engine that puts out 301 hp, a huge bump in performance from the current model’s 228 hp. The JCW will also feature a lower sports suspension, larger exhaust pipes and four-piston brake calipers.
